Ben W. Segura
Ben W. Segura is an Executive Advisory Board Member with About The Kids Foundation, a father of two, a brilliant innovator and researcher of fiber and optics. Ben is a knowledgeable engineer specializing in network deployment strategy and innovation.
Currently, Ben is the Manager of Innovation for Google Fiber, driving the next iteration of the Google Fiber network aiming to deploy the internet experience faster, more affordable, and more reliable than ever, whilst ensuring the network supports the applications of the future through research and development of optical and wireless technologies.
Ben developed the capex model for the Google Fiber network and contributed to the RFP’s, vendor selections, and technical feasibility studies that were used to secure the bonds for a retail offering of voice video and data services to residential and business customers. He later became a Licensed Professional Engineer where he designed, managed, and operated the Core Network Infrastructure to thousands of homes and businesses.
Ben holds three patents in optical systems and currently has another seven patents pending for other deployment technologies. He provides direct technical expertise and leads the Technical Due Diligence team that supports the business development arm of Google Fiber for all large-scale merger and acquisition strategies, as well as direct negotiation involvement of expansion initiatives using existing and newly constructed networks over which Google Fiber will provide service – Huntsville Utilities being the first of its kind.
A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Ben earned his Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Before moving to the Bay Area and joining Google, Ben was an Engineer at Lafayette Utilities System for nine years. Also during this time, he spent about three years volunteering as an Instructor with Junior Achievement USA, teaching advanced technology concepts, and inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy.
Ben strives to achieve his long-term goal of making the internet ubiquitous, seamless, faultless, and safe for all who traverse the universal network.
